Serial Entrepreneur, Published Author, Blogger & Podcaster
After spending many years in corporate Jamaica, Heneka Watkis-Porter found herself growing more and more out of love with working a 9-5 which was unfulfilling. It was on August 7, 2007 she decided to start her own business. Patwa Apparel was born, and a few years later, went fulltime with this venture.
Since then, she’s started other ventures, had many successes and failures – had to pivot a few times, all the while doing what she loves. She is a serial-entrepreneur, cultural ambassador, author, speaker, fashion designer and podcaster. She wakes up every day with a grateful heart as she lives her purpose of “life transformation through inspiration”. She is the leading lady behind Patwa Culcha International, the company that owns the authentic Jamaica clothing brand, Patwa Apparel.
Heneka sees her business as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. She enjoys sharing her entrepreneurial experience to help empower the lives of persons with a desire to become entrepreneurs through Speaking, her book “15 Hints to Entrepreneurial Success: Lessons From A Caribbean Business Woman” and podcast, The Entrepreneurial You which is aired in over 60 countries around the world.
Heneka graduated the University of the West Indies (Mona) with a BSc in Sociology and Management Studies (Hons).
Awards and Accolades
Named by National Baking Company as a “Bold One of Manufacturing” for her Patwa Apparel fashion line in 2012. Heneka Watkis-Porter has successful launched and grown her Jamaican culture business on the world stage at varying fashion shows including Domincana Moda in the Dominican Republic. Now Patwa Culcha International, it is the go-to company to commemorate and celebrate Jamaican heritage worldwide. The mission is to create products and services that inspire Jamaican pride worldwide. Heneka also created a sauce line that was nominated in the Jamaica Observer Foods Awards in 2014.

In her unique marriage between memoir and manual, she outlines and illustrates the essential tools, both of mind and resources, which are necessary to enter into, and survive, the world of business”.
In December 2016, Heneka published her second book, “Sermon Notes: A-52 Week Devotional for Quiet Meditation”. This 52-week devotional helps readers develop a deeper relationship with Christ as they take the time to meditate on him. Heneka draws from her own journey being as a Christian, sharing inspirational messages to get through each week.
Motivate Inspire Provoke is a book of quotes, with over 500 quotes in 30 subject areas from over 300 thought leaders of the past and present. Starting with Heneka’s own musings on each area with “My take on it”, this book touches on subject matters ranging from ‘accountability’ to ‘winning’ and so much more in between.
Heneka is the creator and host of The Entrepreneurial You. This initially aired for 3 seasons on traditional radio starting in March 2014. Zuree Dolls, Patwa Culcha International Fashions Joint Venture
Doll producing company Zuree Limited, makers of the first ever Jamaican Patwa-speaking doll and culturally conscious Patwa Culcha International Limited (PCIL), owner of Patwa Apparel, have announced a joint venture Agreement. This deal is expected to create powerful synergies for the two companies. PCIL, under its internationally acclaimed brand, Patwa Apparel, will create a line of clothing for the global sensation, Toya – one of the dolls in the Zuree collection.
PCIL, owner of widely recognized Jamaican clothing brand Patwa Apparel, today announced its strong partnership with the international sensation, Zuree Ltd. Under this partnership, both companies will utilize their resources and networks to strengthen the operations of each other while also promoting the services and products of each entity in their respective spheres. PCIL, which is the ‘go-to’ company to commemorate and celebrate all things Jamaican, prides itself on crafting unique Jamaican clothing, food, and media and entertainment services for customers around the world.
The United Kingdom based Zuree Ltd, a company that celebrates beauty through dolls and other accessories for girls, aims to promote diversity and show all girls they are truly beautiful regardless of their ethnicity.
Among other things, this partnership will see both businesses working on the launch of the doll clothing collection. The companies will tap into each other’s markets with the objective of growth for both entities. So far, sketches have been made of the collection and a batch of samples created which are to be further developed before they hit the market.
“We are thrilled to partner with Zuree Ltd on this initiative. Anyone that promotes brand Jamaica, speaks our language. The fact that even dolls in the form of Toya do it, makes me even more excited about the prospects,” says owner and CEO of PCIL, Heneka Watkis-Porter. “Both the Zuree and Patwa brands are deeply rooted and grounded into things Jamaican – I love it.”
CEO of Zuree Ltd, Saffron Jackson is equally pleased about the possibilities of this venture. “I am quite elated to be collaborating with Patwa Apparel in creating the dolls’ clothing line representing our unique language and culture which is loved worldwide. This partnership is part of my bigger plan to engage with as many Jamaican entrepreneurs as possible as brand Zuree revolutionalises the toy industry worldwide,” says Jackson.
PCIL, the ‘cultured’ company has been around since 2007. As the company grew, it needed to develop a new strategy that would take the business internationally. As a result, the company shifted focus from a mere t-shirt business to one that is now working on producing content for television, food and more, focusing on the Jamaican culture.
Zuree Ltd officially launched its first doll, Toya on November 24 last year at the Jamaican high Commissioner in the UK. A week later they were made available on their website. Jackson decided to start her doll business after many futile searches for a non-white doll for her daughter Billi-Rae.
Both entities are now working in earnest to execute the launch of the doll collection by end of this year. They will be available for sale on patwaapparel.com and zuree.co.uk. Retailer who are interested in stocking the products can make contact via the contact information provided.
